Hi Family!

Welcome to the new Rodriguez Family Ancestry Blog. This is the best way that we can all see what is happening with the family tree without all paying to belong to the Ancestry.com website! The blog is free and I manage other blogs so I can update it more often!

This is going to be fun! Please be patient as I start telling the stories, as I can really procrastinate a lot, but the family history is already VERY interesting. If there is something you do not want to be posted, please let me know. Otherwise, this will only be sent to family members, so we all probably know about it anyway! Nothing private or embarrassing will be on here, such as jail terms or bad grades. Just family history, and mostly about those who are already gone. We will see how far back we can go. One of our aunts through marriage, Gloria Candelaria Rodriguez (Joel) has her family tree traced back to the year 580. She has been working on it for 50 years!

I found a famous person in the line... there has to be a little history with this story, which is like many stories in one. This is the 4th great grandfather of Grandma Sally. Summarized from an article by Steve Gibson, 4th great-grandson of Francisco Xavier Chaves.    Francisco Xavier Cháves (1762 –1832). The first member of the Cháves family in San Antonio was born in or around Albuquerque, New Mexico about 1762. His maternal grandfather was a Sergeant of the Royal Presidio at Albuquerque, who participated in Indian campaigns killing many Comanche’s and who was himself killed by Comanche’s.[1] His father, Ignacio was the son of Francisco Duran y Cháves and Juana Baca. Grampa Gabriel's Story of his Mother

I remember Gabriel RODRIGUEZ when my husband (Gabriel's son) Joel Sanchez RODRIGUEZ and I visited him in Houston, Texas. I had met him and his wife, Sallie, in Brookshire, Texas, years before. This trip was special - I interviewed Gabriel about his origins. This is what he said: "I remember my mother. I was born in a little town that no longer exists - it was called La Bahia. (I explained that the town still existed, and was now called Goliad). He said he remembered his mother, and he remembered the last time he saw her. Her name was Lupita, and he remembered her clearly: she was sitting behind a man (could have been his father, Eusequio Rodriguez) on a white horse; she had a belt of bullets wrapped across her chest, and she was known as an ADELITA, fighting with Pancho Villa (circa the 1915 revolution).
